Aadesh Shrivastava

Composer and singer; the man who gave Major Saab 'Sona Sona' · 1964–2015

Before Aadesh Shrivastava composed, he played the drums, for O. P. Nayyar, Shankar-Jaikishan and Salil Chowdhury among others, and then spent almost a decade assisting Laxmikant-Pyarelal. His first song as a composer was sung by Lata Mangeshkar for a film called Kanyadaan, which never came out, so the songs went unheard. Jackie Shroff, who stars in Dahleez, remembered meeting him when he went to hear the music for Hero (1983): Shrivastava was one of the percussionists.

Born on 4 September 1964, he became a regular for the Yash Raj and Dharma banners, with songs in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Baghban (2003) and Chalte Chalte (2003). For Major Saab (1998) he composed 'Sona Sona', one of the album's biggest hits, and the background score. He was married to Vijayta Pandit, the sister of the composer duo Jatin-Lalit.

He died of cancer in Mumbai at 12.30 a.m. on 5 September 2015, a day after his 51st birthday. A road crossing in Mumbai now carries his name.

We corrected this Wikidata gives Aadesh Shrivastava's birth as 4 September 1966 and his death as 4 September 2015. He was born on 4 September 1964 and died just after midnight on 5 September 2015.
How we knowA Kokilaben Hospital statement, quoted by Banglanews24, says he was 51 and died at 12.30 a.m. on 5 September 2015; Bollywood Hungama says he died a day after his 51st birthday, which only works with 1964; India TV gives 4 September 1964. Some agency copy gives 1965, which his age contradicts. No other source consulted gives 1966.
