Akhtar-Ul-Iman
1915–1996
Akhtar-ul-Iman was a significant modernist Urdu poet who paid for the poetry by writing film dialogue, and was candid that the two had nothing to do with each other. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1962.
He wrote for Waqt, Dharmputra, Gumrah, Joshila and Zameer - mostly for the Chopras - and his screen credits run to around a hundred films while his collected poetry runs to five volumes.
