Anand Bakshi
Indian lyricist and poet (1930-2002)
He served in the Royal Indian Navy and the Indian Army before writing a word for films, and then wrote somewhere above four thousand songs across forty years, working in plain speech rather than literary Urdu.
That plainness is why the lines stick. Forty Filmfare nominations and four wins. For Sholay he wrote Yeh Dosti, which is still what gets sung when two friends in India want to embarrass each other.
