Arun Kaul

1933–2007

Arun Kaul was a writer and producer central to the New Indian Cinema of the 1970s - he co-wrote its manifesto with Mrinal Sen - and later directed Diksha, which won the National Award for best feature film in Hindi.

He carries a story credit on Chandni. The two halves of that career sit oddly together, which is itself characteristic of the period.
