Arun Kumar Ahuja

Actor, billed here as Aroon; Govinda's father

Arun Kumar Ahuja is billed on this film's cast card simply as Aroon, and he plays Shamu - the husband who loses the use of his arms and walks out rather than be a burden, which is the event the whole story turns on. He married the singer and actress Nirmala Devi, a Hindustani vocalist of the Patiala gharana, and their son is the actor Govinda. Sources disagree about him in two places and neither is settled here: his birth is given as 17 January 1917 or 26 January 1918, and the marriage as 1941, 1942 or 1945. He died in 1990.
