B. R. Chopra
1914–2008
Baldev Raj Chopra was a film journalist in Lahore before Partition and started again in Bombay with nothing. He made films with arguments in them - Naya Daur about machines replacing men, Kanoon with no songs at all, Sadhna, Insaf Ka Tarazu, Nikaah.
B. R. Films produced for forty years and he gave his younger brother Yash Chopra his first films to direct. His production of the Mahabharat for television in 1988 is probably the most-watched thing he ever made.
