Bhupinder Singh

1940–2022

Bhupinder Singh was a guitarist before he was a singer, and both at once for most of his career - he played the guitar line on Dum Maro Dum and on a great many other people's hits while building a parallel life as a ghazal singer. His voice was low, unhurried and unmistakable.

He sang comparatively few film songs, choosing them, and Deewaar's 'Idhar Ka Mal Udhar' is one. He later performed mostly in concert with his wife Mitali, as Bhupinder-Mitali, and died in 2022.
