Chetan Anand
1915–1997
Chetan Anand's first film, Neecha Nagar, shared the Grand Prix at the first Cannes festival in 1946 - the only Indian film ever to win it - and the rest of his career never matched that start, which he seems to have minded less than everyone else did.
He founded Navketan with his brother Dev Anand, made Haqeeqat about the 1962 war, Heer Raanjha entirely in verse, and Kudrat, which is on this site. Priya Rajvansh was in most of his later films and lived with him until his death.
