Danny Denzongpa

1948–

Tshering Phintso Denzongpa came from Sikkim, trained at the Film and Television Institute alongside Jaya Bhaduri, and took the name Danny because the industry could not manage his own. He played villains for forty years with a stillness that made him more frightening than the shouters.

Dharmatma, Agneepath, Khuda Gawah, Ghatak, Baby. He turned down Gabbar Singh in Sholay because of a scheduling conflict, which is the industry's favourite piece of what-if. He also sings, paints and makes beer in Sikkim.
