David Abraham
1909–1981
David Abraham Cheulkar was a lawyer who never practised, a Bene Israel Jew from Bombay, and one of the most recognisable character actors of his generation - usually the kindly uncle, the priest or the employer with a conscience.
Boot Polish in 1954 won him the Filmfare award for supporting actor. He also commentated on hockey and was the Indian contingent's manager at the 1972 Olympics. He emigrated to Canada in 1981 and died there.
