Dwarka Divecha
Indian cinematographer (1918-1978)
A cameraman of the studio era who shot Mother India's second unit and then a long run of 1960s and 70s features. Sholay was his last major work and the one that justified the whole career.
The film was photographed in 35mm and blown up to 70mm, which punishes any softness in the original, and the wide shots of the ravines were built to survive that. He died three years after its release.
