Gurudutt Shirali
The other half of an editing partnership that ran from 1972 to 1993.
Twenty films here, and eighteen of them are shared with Waman Bhonsle.
They are the same eighteen seen from the other side: Koshish, Parichay, Benaam, Aandhi, Khel Khel Mein, Inkaar, Meera, Karz, Krodhi, Angoor, Khud-Daar, Satte Pe Satta, Baazi, Boxer, Duniya, Mr. India, Izzatdaar, Gurudev. Twenty-one years of films cut by two people working together, which is long enough to be a career rather than a collaboration.
Two here are his without Bhonsle: Pyar Ka Mausam in 1969, which is the earliest of his films we hold, and Anamika in 1973.
An editing partnership is a strange thing to be half of, because the work does not divide into visible halves - there is no sequence anybody can point to and say that one is his. What can be said is that the pairing outlasted most of the directors it served, and that the films it cut include the best-liked comedy of the period and the biggest fantasy of it.
