Hariprasad Chaurasia
1938–
Hariprasad Chaurasia is one of the great bansuri players of the century. His father was a wrestler who wanted him to wrestle and he learned music secretly, which is a story he has told often enough that it has become part of the instrument's folklore in India.
With the santoor player Shivkumar Sharma he formed Shiv-Hari, and the pair scored a handful of Yash Chopra films - Silsila, Chandni, Lamhe, Darr. They are the only classical musicians of that rank to have worked regularly in commercial Hindi cinema.
