I. S. Johar

1920–1984

Inderjeet Singh Johar wrote, directed, produced and acted, and was funny in all four. He made satires nobody else would touch - Johar Mehmood in Goa, Nasbandi, which attacked the Emergency's sterilisation programme and was promptly banned.

He also appeared in Lawrence of Arabia and Death on the Nile. He stood for parliament, wrote a newspaper column, and was by most accounts exhausting.
