Jagdeep
1939–2020
Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffri lost his father in Partition, sold combs on the street in Bombay as a child, and was picked out of a crowd of extras at eight. He acted for seven decades under the name Jagdeep.
Soorma Bhopali in Sholay is twelve minutes of screen time that outlived most leading roles of its decade - he later directed a whole film around the character. His sons Javed and Naved Jaffrey both went into the business.
