Javed Akhtar
Indian screenwriter, lyricist and poet (born 1945)
The other half of Salim-Javed, and the son of the poet Jan Nisar Akhtar, which shows in everything he has written since. He arrived in Bombay with nothing and spent years sleeping where he could before the partnership took.
After it dissolved he became the foremost lyricist of his generation - 1942: A Love Story, Border, Lagaan - with five National Awards, the Padma Bhushan and the Sahitya Akademi Award for his own poetry. Few people have been at the top of two quite different trades in one industry.
