Kamleshwar
1932–2007
Kamleshwar was one of the major Hindi novelists of the twentieth century, a central figure in the Nayi Kahani movement, and edited Sarika and Dainik Jagran. He also wrote for about a hundred films, which his literary peers never quite forgave.
Aandhi, Mausam, Souten, The Burning Train. Kitne Pakistan, his late novel about Partition, won the Sahitya Akademi Award. He was given the Padma Bhushan in 2005.
