Lalita Pawar

1916–1998

Lalita Pawar was a leading lady until an accident on set in 1942 - a slap from a co-actor that damaged a facial nerve - left her with the paralysed left eye that defined the rest of her career. She turned it into a forty-year run as the cruel mother-in-law, and was extraordinary at it.

She is in around seven hundred films. Her Mrs D'Sa in Anari won her the Filmfare award, and she played the warmest version of the type in Shree 420.
