M. S. Shinde
Indian film editor
The editor of Sholay, and the man who won the film its only competitive Filmfare award - Best Editing, in a year when the picture was otherwise overlooked.
The reputation rests on the action: the train sequence that opens the film runs about seven minutes and was cut from an enormous amount of coverage, and the rhythm of it is why a three-and-a-half-hour film does not feel like one.
