Madan Mohan
1924–1975
Madan Mohan composed fewer films than his contemporaries and is argued to have written the best ghazals any of them did. Lata Mangeshkar called him the ghazal's emperor, and the songs she sang for him are the ones she named as her own favourites.
Anpadh, Woh Kaun Thi?, Haqeeqat, Dastak, Mera Saaya, Heer Raanjha. He never had a commercial hit on the scale of Shankar-Jaikishan and minded. Twenty-nine years after his death Yash Chopra used his unreleased tunes for Veer-Zaara.
