Manmohan Desai
1937–1994
Manmohan Desai made films on the principle that an audience which has paid for three hours should not be bored for any of them, and he is the director most associated with the lost-and-found plot - brothers separated, mothers blinded, coincidence doing the work of causation.
He released four films in 1977 and all four were hits; Amar Akbar Anthony is the one that has lasted. Critics disliked him for most of his career and he was unbothered. He died in 1994.
