Manoj Kumar made himself the national conscience of Hindi cinema and was called Bharat Kumar for it - he played a character named Bharat so often that the name stuck to him permanently.

Shaheed, Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Kranti. He directed most of them himself, and Upkar was made because Lal Bahadur Shastri asked him to make a film around the slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kisan. He was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
