Meena Kumari is in this film at about seven years old, billed as Baby Meena and playing Bina as a child, and she sings on Tore Kajra Lagaun Mori Rani. She had been working since she was four because the family needed the money. Everything she is remembered for is still ahead: Baiju Bawra (1952), Parineeta, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Pakeezah, which her husband Kamal Amrohi spent fourteen years making and which opened weeks before she died at thirty-eight. She also wrote Urdu verse, as Naaz. Twelve years after this film she took the lead in Footpath for Zia Sarhadi - who wrote the story of this one.
