Mehmood
1932–2004
Mehmood was the funniest man in Hindi cinema for twenty years and was paid more than the stars he was supporting, which the stars did not always enjoy. He began as a child actor and a driver, and ended up producing his own films.
Padosan, Pyar Kiye Jaa, Gumnaam, Bombay to Goa, Kunwara Baap. Padosan's Master Pillai is the performance everyone quotes. Kunwara Baap, which he directed and starred in, is about a rickshaw-puller raising a child with polio, and is not a comedy. He gave Amitabh Bachchan early work when nobody else would.
