Om Puri
1950–2017
Om Puri had a face the camera could not flatter and used it to become one of the two or three best actors India has produced. The National School of Drama and the Film Institute, then parallel cinema, then everything else.
Aakrosh, Ardh Satya, Mirch Masala, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, and in English East Is East, My Son the Fanatic, Gandhi, The Hundred-Foot Journey. Ardh Satya is the performance - a policeman being ground down - and it is as good as screen acting gets. He was made an honorary OBE.
