Om Shivpuri

1938–1990

Om Shivpuri trained at the National School of Drama in its first years and founded the theatre group Dishantar in Delhi before moving to films. He played policemen, officials and antagonists, usually men with a desk and some authority, in around two hundred films across the 1970s and 1980s.

He worked constantly in that period - Don, Deewaar, Shaan - and died at fifty-two. His wife Sudha Shivpuri became better known in the 1990s for television.
