Pahari Sanyal
1906–1974
Pahari Sanyal came from a Darjeeling family, trained in music, and acted in Bengali and Hindi films for forty years - usually the cultivated elder, often singing.
He worked for New Theatres in Calcutta in the 1930s and for Satyajit Ray later, in Kanchenjungha and Aranyer Din Ratri. The Hindi work is the smaller part of it.
