Raj Khosla wanted to be a playback singer, assisted Guru Dutt instead, and turned out to be the best director of suspense Hindi cinema had. Woh Kaun Thi?, Mera Saaya and Anita are a loose trilogy, all with Sadhana, all built on a woman who may or may not be dead.

He also made Do Raaste, Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Dostana. Mera Gaon Mera Desh is the dacoit film Sholay is usually said to have learned from.
