Rajinder Singh Bedi
1915–1984
Rajinder Singh Bedi is one of the major Urdu short-story writers of the twentieth century, a Progressive Writers' Movement figure whose novella Ek Chadar Maili Si won the Sahitya Akademi Award. Hindi cinema employed him as a dialogue writer.
He wrote for Bimal Roy's Devdas and Madhumati, for Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Abhimaan and Satyakam, and directed Dastak himself. The dialogue in those films is noticeably better than the form required, which is the point.
