1923–1984

Rehman was a leading man in the 1940s and became something rarer in the 1950s and 1960s: the man the audience is asked to understand and not forgive. Guru Dutt used him twice that way.

Pyaasa, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Waqt, Baharon Ke Sapne. In Waqt he is the lawyer whose case drives the last act. He stopped working in the late 1970s.
