Salil Chowdhury
1925–1995
Salil Chowdhury wrote for the Indian People's Theatre Association before films and brought to them a training in Western classical structure that nobody else in the industry had - his arrangements use counterpoint and choral writing where his contemporaries used melody.
He composed in Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam and several other languages, and Anand's score is the best known of the Hindi work. Do Bigha Zamin, which this catalogue also holds, was his story as well as his music.
