Salim Khan
Indian screenwriter and actor (born 1935)
Half of Salim-Javed, the first screenwriting partnership in Hindi cinema to be billed like stars and paid like them. Salim Khan began as an actor and found he was better at construction than performance.
Between 1971 and 1982 the pair wrote Zanjeer, Deewaar, Sholay, Don, Trishul and Shakti - and in doing so invented the angry young man and handed Amitabh Bachchan a career. Sholay came out of a four-line idea several producers turned down before Ramesh Sippy took it.
