Satyen Kappu
1931–2007
Satyen Kappu came out of the Indian People's Theatre Association and played character parts in something close to three hundred films, most often the father, the uncle or the policeman. He was the kind of actor whose face an audience knows completely without ever having learned his name.
In Deewaar he is Anand Verma, the union leader whose disgrace in the first twenty minutes sets everything after it in motion - a short part that the entire film is an answer to. He worked steadily into the 1990s.
