Shakti Samanta

1926–2009

Shakti Samanta directed in Hindi and Bengali for forty years and made the films that turned Rajesh Khanna into a phenomenon - Aradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem.

He had a particular gift for pairing a star with a song, which is why his soundtracks outlasted several of his plots. Alag Alag is a late one. He later chaired the Central Board of Film Certification.
