Shreeram Lagoo
1927–2019
Shreeram Lagoo was an ear, nose and throat surgeon who practised for years in Pune and in Tabora, Tanzania, before taking up acting full time in his forties. He brought a Marathi stage actor's precision to Hindi films and played fathers, doctors and authority figures in more than two hundred of them.
He was also a public rationalist who argued loudly against religion in a country where that is expensive, and he kept doing theatre throughout - Natasamrat, in Marathi, is the performance he is remembered for at home.
