Sridevi

1963–2018

Sridevi acted from the age of four and was a leading woman in Tamil and Telugu cinema before Hindi films took her seriously. When they did, she became the first actress in the industry whose name alone sold a picture - producers called her the only male star of her generation, which was intended as a compliment and says what it says.

Sadma, Mr. India, Chandni, Lamhe, ChaalBaaz. Chandni is the Yash Chopra film that fixed her image in white. She stopped in 1997, returned fifteen years later with English Vinglish, and drowned in a hotel bath in Dubai in 2018.
