Vasant Desai
1912–1975
Vasant Desai composed for V. Shantaram and for Hindi and Marathi cinema for thirty years, and did it with classical musicians when the industry was moving the other way.
Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, Do Aankhen Barah Haath, Guddi, Aashirwad. He used Kumar Gandharva and Vasantrao Deshpande on film soundtracks, which almost nobody did, and wrote Ae Malik Tere Bande Hum, which is sung in Indian schools to this day.
