Vimi

1943–1977

Vimi was a Punjabi housewife with no acting experience when B. R. Chopra cast her opposite Sunil Dutt in Humraaz, and the film was a hit.

Very little followed. She died at thirty-four in a Bombay hospital, and the circumstances - her body taken away on a handcart because nobody would pay for a hearse - became one of the industry's standing cautionary stories about what it does to people it stops needing.
