Description
8Radio is an Irish alternative music station run from Blanchardstown in Dublin by 8Radio Vision Ltd, set up in 2013 by Simon Maher after he left Phantom 105.2. Its stated philosophy is simply to play the music it likes, ranging from 1970s post-punk and 1980s synth pop to brand new Irish and international releases. It lives mainly online and on DAB plus, and has repeatedly won temporary FM licences for weekend broadcasts in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick. Expect a deliberately unpredictable running order, something like The National into boygenius into The Sultans of Ping.

Contact route
a listener complaints code of practice on the station's own site that invites all feedback, negative and positive, and publishes a postal address and an email address to send it to; plus a footer on every page, the site's own 404 page included, carrying the company name, a registered street address, a telephone number, an email address and a social handle; plus official Facebook, X, Instagram and Bluesky accounts in the header, and a volunteer-recruitment page with its own email and postal route

Worth knowing
An internet station that occasionally becomes a real one. It is volunteer-run, its shows are recorded remotely and voicetracked rather than played out live, and every so often it takes a temporary licence and goes out on FM across Ireland for a few weeks.

Where
Dublin, Ireland, and its own about page says its online presence is its main broadcast platform while it is also on DAB+ Digital Radio in the FailteDAB trial, which its homepage says covers the east coast of Ireland from Dundalk to Wicklow, and that it has been granted temporary FM licences to broadcast to Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick at weekends; no FM frequency figure is stated

What we corrected

Nothing. This station's entry matched what its own site says, which is worth recording: a clean check is a result, not an absence of one.

What we found and did not publish

Material that would have made this page fuller, and was refused. A page with five named presenters looks better than a page with none even when the five are a website theme's demonstration content, and the difference is invisible to a reader. So it is recorded here instead.

What we could have said Why we did not
the several email addresses, the telephone number and the three differing street addresses the sweep rule forbids copying an actual email address, telephone number or street address into this file
source
a path titled contact exists as a parent of other live pages but returns the site's own 404 I read that 404 page, whose footer still carries the full contact details, and used the complaints page as the live contact URL instead
source
an FM frequency for any of the four cities the site names the licences and the cities but never a number

If you think something here is wrong

Tell us which fact and what you found instead. Everything above names its source and its date, so a disagreement can be settled by looking rather than argued. Where another site disagrees with us, it is usually because it is repeating a radio directory, and occasionally because we got it wrong. We would like to know which.

Read from the station's own material; this page is generated from the catalogue as it stands now, so it changes when the research does. Research current as at 2026.
