Description
Guyane 1ère is the public radio service of French Guiana, part of the Outre-mer La 1ère network run by France Télévisions, broadcasting from a digital studio complex at Remire-Montjoly just outside Cayenne with a second newsroom at Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. It started life on 9 June 1951 as Radio Cayenne, staffed by volunteers, and has carried several names since before settling on its current one in 2018. Today it is the most listened to station in the territory, reaching about 44 percent of listeners through a network of transmitters that covers the whole department. Output is generalist and local first: news, politics, sport, economy and culture, phone ins and music, with presenters moving between French and Guyanese Creole and some programmes shared in from the wider French public radio network.
