Description
Hala FM is the station Omanis reach for when they want their day in Arabic. It signed on from Muscat in May 2007 as the first privately owned radio station in the Sultanate, and it has run around the clock ever since. The mix is talk and company rather than wall to wall music: a bright two hour breakfast programme, a mid morning cafe that wanders through culture and sport, an afternoon hour where listeners' complaints get put directly to the officials who could fix them, and football argued over on weeknights. Phone calls and text messages run through almost every show, so the day sounds like one long conversation the country is having with itself. The station makes a point of the fact that a young Omani team puts all of it together.

The row had no homepage. halafm.om returns a full 188KB Arabic site titled 'Hala FM | the first private radio in the Sultanate of Oman', with an About page, a frequency table, a programme index and a live player pointing at listen-halafm.sharp-stream.com/halafmmid.mp3, whose stream headers report icy-name 'Hala FM Mid' and icy-genre 'Arabic'. The site's own contact address is [email protected], matching the domain. The obvious candidate halafm.com is NOT the station: over http it serves an unconfigured Nginx Proxy Manager 'Default Site' page of 1033 bytes, and over https it presents a self-signed certificate issued to CN=localhost. hala.fm is a Sedo 'this website is for sale' parking page. |
