Description
Hiru FM is Sri Lanka's leading Sinhala language station, on air since 1 July 1998 and broadcasting island wide on 96.1 and 96.3 MHz from the Asia Broadcasting Corporation studios high in the World Trade Centre in Colombo. The format is infotainment: a broad Sinhala pop and current local hits playlist wrapped around news, talk segments and religious programming, fed by a reporting network the station puts at more than 300 correspondents at home and overseas. It has held the number one slot in the Sinhala market for years and has been named best entertainment channel more than once. Hiru sits at the centre of a private group that also runs Gold FM, Sun FM, Shaa FM and the Tamil service Sooriyan FM.

Sri Lankan station with no language code set. Its own About Us page and the Media Ownership Monitor both describe it as the leading Sinhala language channel, sister to the Tamil service Sooriyan FM, so Sinhala not Tamil. |
What we found and did not publish
Material that would have made this page fuller, and was refused. A page with five named presenters looks better than a page with none even when the five are a website theme's demonstration content, and the difference is invisible to a reader. So it is recorded here instead.
