Description
Lao National Radio is the state broadcaster of Laos, on air since 13 August 1960 and still run out of Vientiane. FM 103.7 is its flagship service and the one the capital tunes to by default, and it is the only frequency on the broadcaster's own site with a published programme grid attached to it. The day mixes news bulletins, current affairs, culture and travel features and music, with settled strands such as a daily look across the wider ASEAN region and a long-running patriotic series about the homeland. Alongside Lao, the network puts out news in Hmong, Khmu, Khmer, Vietnamese, Chinese, French and English, so the country's own languages and its neighbours' all turn up in the same broadcasting day. Medium wave on 567 kHz and shortwave on 6130 kHz carry the same public service out to the provinces and across the border.
