Description
Raadio Kuku is Estonia's talk station, the country's first privately owned radio service, on air since March 1992 and now part of Postimees Grupp. There is essentially no music format here: the day is made of fast news, topical interviews, reporting and long, argumentative conversation about whatever the country is chewing over. Weekday mornings open early with news and commentary and the pace barely lets up until late evening, when the current-affairs hours give way to culture, science and looser talk. It skews urban and well educated, drawing a large share of its audience from Tallinn and Tartu, and about half of its listeners are under fifty. Regulars come for the presenters as much as the subjects, and the same trusted voices return at the same hours through the week. Everything is in Estonian.
