Description
Radio Canela is one of Ecuador's biggest music networks, and the Pichincha service is its home station in Quito on 106.5 FM. The slogan is Original como tú, and the sound is unapologetically popular: chicha, cumbia, salsa, vallenato, bachata and rockola, mixed hard and loud by resident DJs. Weekdays open at six with A Filo de Cama, a noisy crew show, then Radiación Temprana runs the rest of the morning. The middle of the day is handed to Canela Hot Break, a long DJ mix, before the afternoon comedy of El Show de Josema, Paquirri y El Shafa. Evenings turn from Energía Cuántica into Que Tiempos Aquellos for the older records, and across the network the weekend keeps room for Julio Jaramillo Vive with its pasillos and valses, plus Sonidos de la Pacha Mama for folklore. Pichincha is also the origin signal for a second Quito frequency on 91.3.
