Description
Radio Chacaltaya went on air on 27 May 1992 and has been at 93.7 FM ever since, reaching La Paz and El Alto from studios in the Sopocachi district. It made its name as the station that stood behind tropical music in Bolivia at a time when that music was looked down on, and cumbia, salsa, merengue and reggaeton still carry the whole day. Mornings are brisk and practical, from Arrancando la Mañana at half past five into La Mañana Empresarial at eight for business talk. Afternoons belong to El Sabor con Z, which the station says has been running more than ten years, and the evening softens into Hechizo de Luna before El Noctámbulo takes the night shift for people just starting work. Saturdays drop the routine for Al Ritmo de Chacaltaya, then La Llajuita for Bolivian folklore, La Reina Tropical and Sabor a Sábado.

The station's own About page is in Spanish and says it first went on air on 27 May 1992 on 93.7 FM for the La Paz department; there is no mention anywhere on its own site of Aymara or Quechua programming. |
What we found and did not publish
Material that would have made this page fuller, and was refused. A page with five named presenters looks better than a page with none even when the five are a website theme's demonstration content, and the difference is invisible to a reader. So it is recorded here instead.
