Description
Radio Liban Libre, known on air as Sawt Lubnan al Hurr and in English as Radio Free Lebanon, began broadcasting in the summer of 1978 during the Hundred Days War and has been part of the Lebanese soundscape ever since. It broadcasts in Arabic from a three-storey building in Zouk Mosbeh in the Kesrouan district, about twelve kilometres north of Beirut, on 102.3, 102.5 and 102.7 FM. This is a news and talk station first: bulletins through the day, a morning read of the papers with a journalist on the line, daily political comment and long interview programmes with politicians, analysts and commentators. It carries the political outlook of the Lebanese Forces but describes itself as open to all sides, and it pairs the politics with medical tips, arts coverage, a business show and a strand honouring the dead of the Lebanese resistance by name and date. The music it does play is exclusively Lebanese, and the day opens gently with a warm breakfast hour before the news takes over.
