Description Radio Ndeke Luka broadcasts from Bangui on 100.9 FM and calls itself the number one media outlet in the Central African Republic, which for once is close to the truth. It grew out of Radio Minurca, the United Nations mission station, went independent in 2000 and is now run by the Fondation Ndeke Luka within the Hirondelle network. Its name means bird of good omen in Sango, and the schedule is genuinely bilingual: news at six in French, at seven in Sango, at one in both, and a Sango-only evening programme, Laso na Beafrika, that runs an hour and a half. Around the bulletins sit magazines on farming, the economy, health, justice, women and parliament, phone-ins where listeners argue their own case, radio theatre and a music hour.
