Description
Radio Noroc has been on air from the heart of Moldova since 16 November 2005, and its whole reason for existing is Romanian folk music. The station says plainly that it refuses to let traditional song be pushed to the margins, so a day mixes the great old ballads with new recordings by young performers, live orchestra sessions and pieces that sit somewhere between folk and lighter popular styles. Quality, emotion and good taste are the stated test for anything that gets played. Mornings are conversational with the Porubins, afternoons stretch out with music, gardening and health advice, and the evening turns to books. Two listener-voted charts run alongside, one for folk and one for light music. A golden horseshoe is the emblem, and Dumitru Chicu is the voice between the songs.
