Description
Saint FM Community Radio calls itself "The Heartbeat of St Helena" and has run since 2004. In its own account, it was set to close for the second time in November 2024 after the illness and death of Mike Olsson, one of its founders, and was kept on air at the last moment by volunteers who restarted it on 29 November 2024 with no money in the organisation and no historical financial obligations, funded by public fundraising. It says over 25 volunteer presenters, islanders and visitors of all ages, now make its weekly programming, and that before the closure it had two full-time staff and lived on advertising revenue. It broadcasts to St Helena and says it also reaches Ascension Island, the Falkland Islands and listeners abroad.

The station describes a "hybrid and remote operation" with an operational team managing it remotely and volunteer presenters live in the studio, and it says presenters step in to fill gaps in the schedule. Some shows are produced off-island and supplied as recordings: Paul Blake produces and presents from the UK and only presents live from the studio when he is on the island, Chris Thomas records World Pop Radio in Chicago and supplies it free of charge, and Kerry Fearon's The Boots 'n' Roots show is a show she also presents on Dundalk FM in Ireland and has made available to Saint FM since March 2024.

Our up todate show guide is shared on our social media pages daily as programming is always changing due to volunteer commitments."
